Simple Bluebird House Plans Free

Bluebirds are a welcome sight in any backyard, and providing them with a suitable nesting place is a great way to attract these beautiful birds. Building a bluebird house is a relatively simple project that can be completed in a few hours, and the plans are available for free online.

Materials

To build a bluebird house, you will need the following materials:

1x6 pine board or cedar board (8 feet long)
1x4 pine board or cedar board (8 feet long)
1/2-inch plywood (12 inches x 12 inches)
1-1/2 inch galvanized roofing nails
Wood glue
Paint or stain (optional)

Tools

You will also need the following tools:

Saw
Drill
Hammer
Measuring tape
Pencil

Instructions

To build a bluebird house:

1. Cut the 1x6 pine board into the following pieces:

2 pieces that are 5-1/2 inches long
2 pieces that are 6 inches long
2 pieces that are 8 inches long
1 piece that is 12 inches long

2. Cut the 1x4 pine board into the following pieces:

2 pieces that are 5-1/2 inches long
1 piece that is 12 inches long

3. Cut the 1/2-inch plywood into a 12-inch x 12-inch square. 4. Assemble the sides of the bluebird house by gluing and nailing the 5-1/2 inch and 6 inch pieces of 1x6 pine board together. The 5-1/2 inch pieces should be on the bottom and top, and the 6 inch pieces should be on the sides. 5. Assemble the front and back of the bluebird house by gluing and nailing the 8 inch pieces of 1x6 pine board together. The 12 inch piece of 1x4 pine board should be attached to the top of the front and back pieces, flush with the edge.

6. Attach the front and back of the bluebird house to the sides by gluing and nailing them in place. 7. Attach the plywood bottom to the bluebird house by gluing and nailing it in place. 8. Drill a 1-1/2 inch hole in the front of the bluebird house, about 1-1/2 inches from the top. This hole will be the entrance for the bluebirds. 9. Paint or stain the bluebird house, if desired. 10. Hang the bluebird house in a suitable location, such as a tree or post, about 5-8 feet off the ground.
